Did you know that three City of Colorado Springs Community Centers provide before and/or after school programming for students from kindergarten through 5th grade? This programming, offered at Deerfield Hills, Hillside, and Meadows Park Community Centers, benefits students, parents and the community by providing academic enrichment opportunities serving students’ physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs.
Students enrolled in these great programs will benefit by having a safe and welcoming space during out of school time hours, supervised engagement with positive adult role models, improved social skills through interaction with peers, homework help, participation in physical activities, life skills learning opportunities, and healthy nutrition daily. Families benefit by receiving wrap-around support and peace of mind knowing their child is safe and being cared for by knowledgeable, highly trained, and caring staff. The community benefits by the increase in student supervision during out of school time and through the proactive development helping to foster productive and engaged youth in our City.
With youth mental health of vital importance in our community, parents can rest assured knowing City staff have been trained in Youth Mental Health First Aid and Restorative Practices and are continually adding opportunities for staff to develop their skillset and ability to proactively support the youth in Colorado Springs. All sites are licensed through the State of Colorado. Staff maintain all required certifications, trainings, and staffing ratios to provide the safest environment possible.
Students attending Harrison School District 2 are eligible to receive free before and after school care thanks to grant funding provided through the school district. Hillside Community Center offers an after-school program at a low cost for students attending John Adams and Columbine Elementary Schools in D11. Meadows Park Community Center has both an after-school program and a once a week on Mondays before school offered at a low cost for children that attend Vanguard Charter School.
