On February 21, 2023, at approximately 1:15 p.m., CSPD was dispatched to a fatal crash in the area of northbound I-25 and MLK Bypass. The investigation determined an unknown vehicle had changed lanes, cutting off a 2nd vehicle. This 2nd vehicle collided with a semi-trailer, killing the driver of the 2nd vehicle. The investigation identified the driver of the unknown vehicle as 66-year-old Michele Allport of Colorado Springs. On March 16, 2023, Ms. Allport was charged with Careless Driving Causing Death and Changing Lanes in an Unsafe Manner (Driving on Roadways Laned for Traffic).

On 02/21/2023, at 1:15 PM, Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department, Gold Hill Division, were dispatched to the area of I-25 northbound at the Martin Luther King Jr. Bypass for a traffic crash involving a tractor-trailer and a motor vehicle. Upon the officer’s arrival, it was determined that the vehicle’s driver was deceased on the scene. Due to the nature of the crash, the Major Crash Team was contacted and responded to assume the investigation. It is still early in the investigation, and Detectives are still working to determine the proximate cause of the crash. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors currently.
