On February 8, 2023, members of the Colorado Springs Police Department, Major Crash Team, were involved in the investigation of a fatal traffic crash involving a pedestrian and two vehicles around E Fountain Boulevard and Jetwing Drive. On April 11, 2023 one of the drivers was served a traffic summons for their involvement in the crash. The driver charged has been identified as 23-year-old Colorado Springs resident Caleb Zarkovacki. Zarkovacki was served and released on a traffic summons on the charges of Careless Driving, resulting in death, and Speed Limits. On April 13, 2023, the other driver involved in this traffic crash was also charged. The second driver has been identified as 23-year-old Colorado Springs resident Kyle Rolofson. Rolofson was served and released on a traffic summons on the charges of Careless Driving, resulting in Death and Speed limits. The investigation revealed that both drivers were driving well above the speed limit and both vehicles struck the victim.

Update to the 5th fatal traffic crash in 2023
On 02/08/2023, the Colorado Springs Police Department Major Crash Team investigated a traffic crash at the intersection of Fountain and Jetwing. On 02/08/2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the deceased. The deceased is identified as Colorado Springs Resident Joseph Rector, 55 years old. This is the 5th fatal traffic crash in Colorado Springs this year. At the same time last year, Colorado Springs had two fatal traffic crashes. In the past 365 days, there have been 58 fatal traffic crashes. Excessive speed is considered a factor in this investigation. Presently, no arrests have been made, but the investigation is ongoing.
