Evergreen Cemetery is hosting a volunteer cleaning and repair workday on Saturday, July 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sponsored by national non-profit Atlas Preservation, Evergreen was chosen as one of 56 locations for their 48 State Tour. The public is invited to attend and participate.

The objective of the 48 State Tour is to spread information and techniques required to safely clean and repair cemeteries in need around the country through Gravestone Preservation Workshops. At the workshop, which is free and open to the public, the team will discuss and demonstrate practical hands-on techniques for properly cleaning and repairing gravestones in disrepair.

“We are so very grateful that Evergreen Cemetery was chosen by Atlas Preservation as one of their locations on the 48 State Tour,” said Cheryl Godbout, Cemetery Administrator for the City of Colorado Springs. “It is important to honor and preserve the memories of those who have passed, and this event will help us do just that. We appreciate the dedication and expertise that Atlas Preservation brings to this important work, and we look forward to the positive impact they will have on this historic cemetery in the heart of Colorado Springs.”

This Gravestone Preservation Workshops is completely free and open to the public, with no limit on the number of attendees and participants. After the cleaning demonstration, workshop participants are encouraged to adopt a gravestone and perform the cleaning process. Atlas Preservation will provide all equipment required to perform this work. Volunteers are asked to wear comfortable clothing and to provide their own food and water.
