The Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is off to a strong start for the summer travel season. The airport welcomed 216,775 total passengers for May, which is 14 percent more than in May last year. Of those passengers, 108,915 boarded a plane out of COS, representing a 14.8 percent increase compared to the same time in 2023.

"This summer is projected to be strong with six percent more seats in the market from June through August than last summer,” said Greg Phillips, Director of Aviation for COS. “We’ve not only welcomed back seasonal air service but also introduced a new nonstop route to Baltimore/Washington (BWI) with Southwest Airlines. This new route is a result of extensive efforts, and we are extremely excited about it.”

During the summer, Avelo Airlines resumed its nonstop flight to Hollywood-Burbank/Los Angeles (BUR), Sun Country Airlines, and Delta Air Lines began nonstop flights to Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP) and Southwest Airlines initiated nonstop service to Baltimore/Washington (BWI). Additionally, Delta will launch a second daily nonstop flight to Atlanta (ATL) starting in July.

Seats available in the market for May were 10.2 percent higher than last year, at 123,828. Most of those seats were filled, with the month reporting an 88 percent load factor, 3.5 percent higher than last year. Moreover, the year-to-date load factor for COS has been 81 percent, reflecting an increase compared to the previous year.

The airport expects the summer to continue with strong traffic and encourages the community to support the local airport.
