On Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at approximately 10:07 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) was notified of a crash involving a bicyclist and a vehicle near the intersection of Maizeland Road and Sussex Lane, in front of Palmer Park.  The bicyclist, David Baker of Colorado Springs, died on scene as a result of the crash.  It was learned the vehicle that struck Mr. Baker had fled the scene.

The investigation has shown that Mr. Baker was struck from behind by a vehicle and fell to the ground.  After a few moments, Mr. Baker was then struck by two additional vehicles while he was still in the roadway.  All of the involved vehicles fled the scene.

CSPD has since located one of the involved vehicles but is still searching for the other two.

Evidence indicates one vehicle to be a white 2010-2014 Subaru Outback.  The vehicle may have damage to its front end or windshield.  This vehicle was last seen driving west on Maizeland Road, towards Chelton Road.

The second vehicle being sought is believed to be an unknown make/model light colored minivan.  This vehicle should have front end damage.  This vehicle was last seen driving east on Maizeland Road and passing thru Academy Blvd.

The CSPD Major Crash Team is now at a point in this investigation that they are asking for the community’s help in locating the vehicles or identifying the drivers. If you have any information regarding the Subaru Outback or minivan, please call the CSPD at 719-444-7000; or if you wish to remain anonymous, you may call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at (719) 634-STOP (7867) or 1-800-222-8477.
