Original release:

On Saturday, February 27, 2021, around 3:53 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) Communications Center was notified of a traffic crash in the 3500 block of South Chelton Loop. When officers arrived on scene, they located a deceased adult female. Personnel from AMR as well as the Colorado Springs Fire Department also responded to the scene. Responding paramedics indicated that the female sustained an apparent gunshot wound.

Based on the preliminary evidence and nature of this incident, detectives from the CSPD’s Violent Crimes Section responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Detectives are in the process of developing information about the incident and this continues to be an active investigation.

On March 1, 2021, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the female victim. The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Margie Crowe. While the Coroner's Office will make the official cause and manner determination, this death is being investigated as a homicide. Further details will be released in the future as appropriate.

Ms. Crowe’s death is the fourth homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2021. The CSPD investigated nine homicides at this time last year.
