On February 8, 2023, the Colorado Springs Police Department Major Crash Team investigated a traffic crash at the intersection of Fountain and Jetwing. On February 8, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the deceased. The deceased is identified as Joseph Rector, 55-year-old, and a Colorado Springs Resident.
This is the 5th fatal traffic crash in Colorado Springs this year. At this same time last year, there were two fatal traffic crashes in Colorado Springs. In the past 365 days, there have been 58 fatal traffic crashes. Excessive speed is considered a factor in this investigation. Presently, no arrests have been made, but the investigation is ongoing.

On 02/08/23 at 0531 officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department Sand Creek Division were dispatched to the area of Fountain and Jet Wing regarding an auto / pedestrian traffic crash. Arriving officers located an adult male that had been struck by multiple vehicles in the intersection and was deceased. Due to the nature of the crash, the MCT was contacted and responded to the scene to assume the investigation.
