December 1, 2021 update

On Tuesday, November 30, 2021, detectives with the Homicide/Assault Unit obtained an arrest warrant for a 15-year-old male for two counts of murder in the first degree regarding the deaths of Leroy Law and Darius Cheatom. Mr. Law and Mr. Cheatom were found deceased in a vehicle on November 2, 2021, in the 4400 block of Fountain Springs Grove. Also on November 30, 2021, the juvenile male was served the arrest warrant at the Zebulon Pike Youth Services Center where he was being held on unrelated charges.

Previous Update

On Tuesday, November 2, 2021, the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a shooting involving two victims in the 4400 block of Fountain Springs Grove. Officers located two deceased adult males inside a vehicle that was parked in the parking lot. 

On Wednesday, November 3, 2021, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of both victims. The victims have been identified as 54-year-old Leroy Law and 20-year-old Darius Cheatom of Colorado Springs. Mr. Law’s and Mr. Cheatom’s deaths are the 33rd and 34th homicide investigations in the City of Colorado Springs in 2021.  The CSPD investigated 34 homicides at this time last year.

On Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at approximately 12:25 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department’s (CSPD) Communication Center received a shooting call for service in the 4400 block of Fountain Springs Grove.  CSPD officers and medical personnel responded and located two deceased adult males inside of a vehicle that was parked in the parking lot.  Based on the preliminary investigation by patrol officers, detectives from CSPD’s Homicide/Assault Unit responded to assume responsibility for this investigation.  This continues to be an active and open investigation.  Further details will be released in the future as appropriate.
