On Wednesday, December 21, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the deceased victim, who has been identified as 30-year-old Ivan Maldonado, a resident of Dallas, Texas. While the Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, Mr. Maldonado’s death is being investigated as a homicide. At this time, no arrests have been made and the investigation is on-going.
Mr. Maldonado’s death is the 53rd homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2022. The CSPD investigated 43 homicides this time last year.

On December 20, 2022, at approximately 7a.m., CSPD received a report of a suspicious vehicle on the side of the road near I-25 and the MLK Bypass, in the southbound lanes. The vehicle is a gray, four-door truck. Upon arrival a deceased person was discovered in the vehicle. Due to the suspicious nature of the scene, the CSPD Homicide Unit responded to investigate further.
