Research Parkway will be closed at Black Forest Road for approximately five weeks beginning today to begin rebuilding the intersection. Traffic will remain open in both directions of Black Forest Road, but turn movements to and from Research Parkway will be closed.

Motorists who use Research Parkway to access Black Forest Road and points east should use westbound Research or Briargate Parkways to Powers Boulevard, then south to Woodmen Road and east to Black Forest Road. Motorists who use Black Forest Road to access Research Parkway should use Powers to eastbound Research.

“This intersection is a key element of the project and will be rebuilt with concrete pavement,” said Mike Chaves, engineering manager for the City of Colorado Springs. “Our project team is coordinating closely with CDOT’s Powers Boulevard-Research Parkway project to ensure detours are accessible. We will keep stakeholders informed of construction progress and share a specific reopening date in the coming weeks.”

Motorists should also expect occasional lane closures, flagging operations and other minor traffic impacts throughout the Black Forest Road project zone due to ongoing utility work by multiple project partners and service providers. Motorists should use caution, obey flaggers managing traffic, and expect short delays.

The project is widening Black Forest Road to two lanes in each direction between Woodmen Road and Research Parkway. Funded through the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) “A” List of projects, work is scheduled to be complete in late 2024.  For project information or to sign up to receive construction updates via email, call 800-887-4451 or visit Coloradosprings.gov/BlackForestRd.
