Mayor Yemi Mobolade announced this week that Jessie Kimber will be the Economic Development Officer for the City of Colorado Springs. She begins on Jan. 2. Jessie is currently the vice president of defense development at the Colorado Springs Chamber & EDC and previously served the City as special assistant to former Mayor John Suthers. A graduate of the College of Naval Warfare, U.S. Marine Corps University and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Kimber served in the U.S. Navy for 24 years.

As the holiday season arrives, COS is excited to share the convenience of nonstop flights to three sought after destinations: San Antonio (SAT), San Diego (SAN), and Houston (HOU) courtesy of Southwest Airlines. Southwest Airlines has also confirmed its commitment to enhancing connectivity by introducing daily nonstop service to Baltimore/Washington (BWI), set to take flight on June 4, 2024.

The City Attorney’s Office completed a review on Tuesday, Nov. 14 of a complaint it received on Sept. 29, 2023 with various allegations related to the general municipal election on April 4, 2023. The investigation did not establish reasonable grounds for a violation of the City Code or the Colorado Municipal Election Code or to initiate enforcement action in Municipal Court. 

Voyager Parkway at Powers Boulevard is closing on Monday, Nov. 20, as Copper Ridge Metro District plans to construct an overpass as part of the Powers Boulevard Extension Project. The closure is expected to last into the fall of 2024. The intent of the District is to open Voyager Parkway to traffic prior to the opening of the Sunset Amphitheater.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is again teaming up with Toys for Tots to ensure no family is left without holiday gifts this year. Toys for Tots donation boxes are located at our police substations and the Police Operations Center. Donate new, unwrapped gifts for kids and teens until December 18.

Mayor Yemi Mobolade is calling on Colorado Springs residents interested in being civic leaders to apply for an opportunity to learn firsthand with how their city government operates. The Mayor’s Civic Leaders Fellowship, designed to introduce future civic leaders in Colorado Springs to the inner workings of their local government with an emphasis on productive discourse in leadership, is accepting applications till Nov. 30.
